How do I use Alterdesk’s video calling functionality?

You can now easily start video calling (also known as ‘video conferencing’, used for, for example, videoconsultations) straight from every existing Alterdesk conversation (both one-on-one and group conversations), using your desktop PC, smartphone or tablet.

When using your desktop PC, you can start a video call as follows:

  1. Open the conversation with the one(s) you wish to start a video call with. (If you do not have an active conversation with these people yet, start a one-on-one conversation or group chat first.)
  2. Click on ‘Start video call’ at the top right of your screen. Every participant in this conversation will now see a message stating that you have started a video call, with a green button to join the conversation.

The video call will look as follows on a PC:

On your smartphone or tablet, follow these steps:

  1. Open the conversation with the one(s) you wish to start a video call with. (If you do not have an active conversation with these people yet, start a one-on-one conversation or group chat first.)
  2. Press the camera icon at the top right of your screen. Every participant in this conversation will now see a message stating that you have started a video call, with a button they can press to join the call.

On an Android smartphone the video call will look like this:

Note: if your video call does not start properly after trying a few times, there are a few things you can do:

  • Run the videochat tester
  • Restart the Alterdesk app and try again
  • Restart your device and try again.

Video calling is a functionality which is solely available for our Enterprise users.
