Why do I not always receive messages / notifications on my Samsung device?

If you are using the Alterdesk app on a Samsung smartphone, you could receive a notification that the app has been ‘active’ in the background. This simply means that the app keeps receiving messages, even when it is not active on the foreground.

You will then be asked whether you wish to save energy by switching the app off – if you approve this, it will cause problems with receiving new messages and corresponding notifications, because you no longer allow Alterdesk to remain active in the background.

Note: very popular (usually consumer) apps such as WhatsApp do not have any of these issues, because Samsung whitelisted them.

Our advice is to not switch off Alterdesk or to switch off the app power monitor entirely.

You can switch off the app power monitor by following these steps:

  • Go to ‘Settings’.
  • Choose ‘Device maintenance’ (formerly known as Samsung Smart Manager).
  • Choose ‘Advanced settings’ at the top right of your screen.
  • Press the switch next to ‘App power monitor’ to turn it off.
